The Workshop is part of the Offspace Festival Q17/Q18 PARTICIPATE and is supported by the City of Nürnberg / Bid Office European Capital of Culture 202
Participation can mean to give voice to our individual choices and actions in our daily lives. Participation can also be the collective activities we are involved in, or the engagement with structures and institutions of democracy. We participate in numerous activities and projects on a daily basis, fulfilling multiple roles as parti cipants. These experiences shape our understanding of the term participation, determine our roles as agents and influence the various acts of participation itself.The workshop will frame participation through the discussion of participatory ideas by addressing different experiences. We will look at specific strategies that were adopted in some of the cities that applied for the European Capital of Culture title in the past. These examples can serve as future points of reference for the participants of the workshop. By defining what participation could mean, we will work towards a recommendation by addressing the following questions: how we would like to participate and in what way we would like to participate? By this process we attempt to climb the participatory ladder.
